A total of 334 people in the Savannah Region have been enrolled in the first batch of the National Apprenticeship Programme, designed to equip young people with employable and entrepreneurial skills.
The initiative has engaged 124 master craft persons to train nearly 210 apprentices across all seven districts of the region, ensuring equitable distribution of opportunities.
Speaking at the launch, the Regional Director of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Mr. Adam Rashid, said the programme underscores government’s commitment to sustainable employment through human capital development. He noted that the National Apprenticeship Programme, introduced under President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), aims to address youth unemployment while promoting entrepreneurship.
Savannah Regional Director of the programme, Mr. Bawa Mubarik, urged participants to take the training seriously and uphold the vision behind the initiative. He cautioned that as the first batch, their success would determine the sustainability of the programme.
He also disclosed that accreditation and refresher training sessions for master craft persons, as well as a matriculation and induction ceremony for the first cohort of apprentices, will be rolled out under the initiative.
