President John Dramani Mahama on Monday applauded Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, following their qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement posted to Facebook, Mr. Mahama wrote, “Congratulations to the senior national team, the #BlackStars. Another qualification for the World Cup. #ResettingGhana.”
The Black Stars secured their place in the tournament with a narrow 1–0 victory over Comoros in Accra on Sunday evening. The win marks Ghana’s fifth appearance at the World Cup since its debut in 2006.
The 2026 tournament will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and will feature an expanded format with 48 teams.
