Damongo Chief Bans ‘Chinchinga’ in Damongo

In a surprising move aimed at tackling a surge in livestock thefts, the Paramount Chief of the Damongo Traditional Area, Damongowura Boresah Kelly Seidu I, has temporarily banned the sale of khebab, locally known as Chinchinga, within the Damongo Municipality.

The decision comes after weeks of growing frustration among residents over the mysterious disappearance of goats, sheep, and cattle in the area. Many believe an organized theft ring is behind the string of incidents, which have left farmers and livestock owners both anxious and financially stretched.

At a meeting held at his palace with youth leaders, including Pastor Samuel Mahama Denkeri, the Damongowura announced that all meat vendors must now use the official abattoir constructed by the West Gonja Municipal Assembly. According to the chief, any animal slaughtered outside the approved facility will be considered stolen.

“We must protect the livelihoods of our people,” Damongowura stated. “This is a necessary step to curb the growing menace of livestock theft in our communities.”

In recent months, residents say thieves have struck under cover of darkness, exploiting poor lighting and minimal security.
