Gbinyiri Conflict: 38 Displaced Persons Return to Sawla Camp Over Fear of Renewed Attacks

Thirty-eight victims of the Gbinyiri conflict, mostly women and children, have returned to the Sawla camp just days after attempting to resettle in their communities at Chenkyere in the Bole District.

The displaced persons, who had earlier fled clashes in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba and Bole districts of the Savannah Region, said they received credible information about possible fresh attacks.

According to details available to JoyNews, the returnees described their sources in Bole as “very reliable,” which compelled them to make a swift return to the camp late last night using a tricycle.

One man who had been hiding in the bush around Chenkyere also fled to the camp after hearing the news. Speaking on condition of anonymity, he said:

“I was hiding in the bush around Chenkyere when I received information that the people would be attacking Chenkyere and the small villages around, so I decided to run here.”
