Charles Kwadwo Fosu, the revered highlife musician known professionally as Daddy Lumba, will be laid to rest on December 6, 2025, in a public funeral ceremony scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The announcement was made by DL FM, the radio station founded by the artist, following his death on July 26 at the Bank Hospital in Accra. He was 60.
Widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most influential musical figures, Mr. Fosu's passing sparked a nationwide outpouring of grief. Both sitting and former government officials, including past presidents, have publicly paid tribute to the singer, whose career spanned more than four decades and shaped modern highlife music in West Africa.
In the weeks following his death, the Creative Arts Agency, in partnership with the Fosu family, organized a candlelight vigil at Independence Square in Accra. A one-week memorial service, held at the same venue on August 30, drew large crowds, including cultural leaders, entertainers, and political dignitaries.
Attendees included former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and Kennedy Agyapong, a former Member of Parliament.
The gathering was marked by musical tributes featuring some of Mr. Fosu’s most enduring hits, including “Aben Wo Ha,” “Sika Asem,” and “Theresa.”
The final funeral rites are expected to attract thousands of fans, dignitaries, and fellow musicians, in accordance with Akan traditions that emphasize elaborate commemorations for cultural icons.
