Hilda Baci Breaks World Record with Largest Serving of Jollof Rice

Nigeria's Hilda Baci has cooked her way into the record books once again – this time with the largest-ever serving of jollof rice.

The Nigerian chef and internet sensation prepared an astonishing 8,780 kilograms (19,356 pounds 9 ounces) of the popular West African dish, setting a new Guinness World Record.

The event took place on Victoria Island in Lagos, where Baci worked in partnership with food brand Gino. The massive dish was prepared using industrial cooking equipment and under official supervision to ensure compliance with Guinness World Records standards.

Guinness confirmed the achievement after the final weight was measured and verified by officials on site.

The cooking process involved thousands of kilograms of rice, tomatoes, oil and spices, all combined in enormous pots before the finished jollof was transferred to weighing stations for certification.

Footage and photos of the feat quickly went viral, with many Nigerians celebrating the moment as a win for both national pride and West African cuisine. Social media buzzed with reactions, with some framing the achievement as part of the long-running (and often playful) regional rivalry over whose jollof reigns supreme.

"This is more than a record – it's a celebration of culture," one supporter commented online.

Baci first rose to fame in 2023 when she claimed the world record for the longest cooking marathon, a feat that earned her admiration across Africa and helped inspire a wave of cooking challenges.

This latest achievement not only cements her reputation as a culinary trailblazer but also shines a spotlight on Nigeria’s rich food heritage. The record is now officially recognised by Guinness World Records, placing Baci once again on the global stage.

Much of the food was reportedly distributed to local communities and charities in Lagos after the event.

The image of steaming jollof rice stretching across a giant platform on Victoria Island has quickly become an iconic snapshot of the record-breaking effort – and a moment of celebration for Nigerian cuisine.
