Funding for La General Hospital Project Expected Soon - Health Minister

Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, said Wednesday that government funding for the La General Hospital project is expected to be released soon, following delays that have slowed construction activity.

Speaking during a site visit with La Dadekotopon Member of Parliament Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, Mr. Akandoh noted that the second Interim Payment Certificate (IPC) had been submitted to the Ministry of Finance and is awaiting disbursement.

Contractors on the project, located in the La area of Accra, have raised concerns over stalled progress tied to delayed payments. In response, Mr. Akandoh sought to reassure workers that the government remains committed to completing the hospital.

“We have submitted the second IPC to the Ministry of Finance and followed up with the relevant stakeholders,” Mr. Akandoh said. “The Ministry has assured us that funds will be released to keep the project moving.”

Construction on the hospital resumed after earlier delays, and Mr. Akandoh said he was encouraged to see workers back on site despite outstanding payments.

The Health Minister projected that, assuming funding flows without further disruption, the hospital could be completed within two years. “We are making provisions in the upcoming budget to ensure sustained financing,” he said. “This project will not be abandoned.”

The La General Hospital redevelopment is part of Ghana’s broader efforts to expand healthcare infrastructure in urban areas.
