Four Dead, 12 Injured in Cape Coast–Accra Highway Crash

Four people have died and 12 others have been injured in a serious road accident near Yamoransa in Ghana's Central Region.

The crash occurred at around 14:45  on Monday near Wakrom Junction on the Cape Coast–Accra Highway.

Police say a DAF truck, registered AW 9548-13 and carrying 700 bags of rice, collided with a Toyota Hiace passenger vehicle, registered GC 9728-21.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Central Regional Rescue Team arrived on the scene within 15 minutes and extricated five people from the wreckage.

Four of those rescued were later confirmed dead at a nearby hospital. One other remains in critical condition.

Emergency services say nine passengers had already been taken to hospital by bystanders before their arrival. In total, 17 people were involved in the crash. The driver of the truck and his assistant were unharmed.

By late Monday, rescue workers were still trying to free one person trapped in the vehicle.

The incident caused major traffic congestion on the busy highway, and authorities have urged motorists to drive with caution along the stretch.
