Police officials are attributing a deadly crash on the Kasoa–Winneba Highway to reckless driving and widespread indiscipline among motorists, following an accident that left two people dead and several others injured on Sunday.
The collision occurred near the Kasoa tollbooth on October 26, 2025. Chief Inspector Joseph Mensah of the Ngleshie Amanfro District Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) described the incident as “entirely preventable,” citing persistent violations of traffic laws despite repeated safety campaigns.
“The way drivers behave on this stretch — the speeding, the disregard for regulations — we have been educating them constantly,” Mensah told Citi News. “Because today was Sunday, they thought the police would not be on the road. Now look at what has happened — a driver’s recklessness has cost a passenger’s life.”
Mensah said police will intensify patrols and enforcement operations along the busy highway, a major artery connecting Accra to the Central Region, to deter dangerous driving practices. Authorities have warned that continued indiscipline on the road poses a growing threat to public safety.
