Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has formally filed his nomination to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer slot, outlining his vision for Ghana should he lead the party into the 2028 elections.
Addressing a large crowd of party faithful at the NPP headquarters in Accra on Thursday, August 28, Dr. Bawumia argued that his experience as a four-time running mate, two-term Vice President, and the party’s 2024 presidential candidate makes him the most prepared candidate to lead both the NPP and the country.
“I am the most prepared candidate for the NPP and for President in 2028,” he declared, citing the interventions he championed while serving as Vice President as evidence of his readiness.
Dr. Bawumia then presented the pillars of his vision, pledging to:
• Expand the economy through policies such as a flat tax system for individuals, corporations, and importers, while creating an enabling environment for businesses and job creation.
• Introduce measures to reduce the cost of living and provide stronger support for vulnerable groups.
• Implement a constituency-based development and budgeting framework to ensure local communities directly benefit from government resources.
• Advance a modern, digitalised economy with equal opportunities for women, persons with disabilities, and grassroots citizens.
• Improve access to credit for all Ghanaians, in line with systems in advanced economies.
• Boost domestic production and job creation by dedicating 3% of GDP expenditure currently undertaken by the public sector to the private sector, with a focus on local procurement.
“My vision is to achieve all this starting with a strong, disciplined and united NPP,” he said.
He concluded by rallying party members to back his bid: “Join me on this journey to rebuild our party and reposition this great tradition to deliver for Ghanaians from 2028.”
