Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reassured members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that he will not engage in any conduct that could create confusion or division within the party.
Addressing thousands of supporters at the NPP headquarters in Accra on Thursday, August 28, after filing his nomination to contest the party’s flagbearer slot, Dr. Bawumia emphasised the need for unity as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.
“Our true opponent is not within. Our true opponent is out there,” he said. “We need unity to win, and I promise you that, just as you have known me to be, I would not do anything to bring division or conflict within the party. If there were to be anyone to create problems in the NPP, it wouldn’t be Dr. Bawumia.”
He also urged fellow aspirants to view the flagbearer race as an internal contest, stressing that the party’s focus should remain on consolidating its strength ahead of the national polls.
Dr. Bawumia went on to outline aspects of his vision for Ghana, which include expanding the economy, supporting job creation, and implementing policies to improve the welfare of citizens.
