The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) announced on Friday that results for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for private candidates will be released by the end of the day.
Speaking at a press briefing, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, confirmed the release schedule, noting that the examination — conducted from June 11 to June 18 — drew a notable increase in private participation.
“The results of BECE for private candidates will be released by the close of today, September 5,” Kapi stated.
A total of 1,661 private candidates sat for this year’s BECE, comprising 858 males and 803 females — a 19.49% increase over the previous year. Meanwhile, 603,328 school-based candidates, from over 20,000 schools, also participated in the exams. That figure represented a 5.99% rise in school-based enrollment, signaling growing demand for basic education certification.
The results for school candidates were released earlier on August 23.
WAEC indicated that several candidates faced sanctions for violating examination regulations. The Council said disciplinary actions were taken based on the findings of its investigative committee, which reviewed incidents of malpractice and irregularities.
The BECE is a critical examination in Ghana’s education system, serving as the main qualification for entry into senior high school.
