A massive fire ripped through parts of the Dodowa Market in the early hours of Wednesday, reducing metal containers and merchandise to ashes before firefighters finally brought the flames under control.
The blaze broke out at around 1:25 a.m. on October 15, sending waves of panic through traders and nearby residents as thick smoke filled the sky. Within minutes, entire sections of the market were engulfed.
Firefighters from the Katamanso Fire Station, backed by teams from Adenta and Madina, battled the flames for hours. The coordinated response, led by ADO I Simon Sosu and under the regional command of ACFO II Osmond Anum, managed to contain the fire by 3:06 a.m. and fully extinguish it just before 5 a.m.
In all, 12 metal container shops were completely destroyed, while six others sustained partial damage. Firefighters, however, managed to save more than 50 market sheds and several nearby structures — preventing what could have easily been a full-scale disaster. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has launched an investigation into what sparked the blaze. Officials praised the swift action of responders and thanked supporting agencies for their crucial assistance.
