Seven Confirmed Dead in Nkawkaw–Accra Highway Crash Involving Sprinter Bus and Cargo Truck

Seven people have been confirmed dead following a fatal accident on the Nkawkaw–Accra highway, near Nkawada No. 2, after a Sprinter bus collided head-on with a cargo truck.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, August 26, involved a passenger Sprinter bus traveling from Somanya in the Eastern Region to Sefwi in the Western North Region. The collision with the oncoming cargo truck left six passengers dead on the spot, while a seventh victim passed away while being transported to the hospital.

Several other passengers sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment.

According to police, the driver and mate of the cargo truck escaped unhurt but have since been taken into custody to assist with investigations.

Preliminary reports suggest that the cargo truck driver may have dozed off while driving. Eyewitness accounts also indicate that he appeared unaware of rainfall along the stretch, raising concerns about driver fatigue and the dangers of driving under adverse weather conditions.

Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation into the crash.
