New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant Dr. Bryan Acheampong has vowed to place the party’s grassroots at the center of his administration, promising that their long-standing contributions will be repaid under what he calls a “sweat equity” approach.
Launching his regional campaign tour in Ghana’s Eastern Region on Wednesday, Acheampong addressed party delegates in Abirem, Ofoase, and Akim Oda, emphasizing that his presidency would prioritize tangible benefits for polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, and other local party operatives.
“If elected president, the workers of our party—your good selves—will benefit directly from the empowerment programs I intend to implement,” he told the gathering. “Your loyalty and labor will not go unrewarded.”
Dr. Acheampong, a former minister and current Member of Parliament for Abetifi, positioned himself as a candidate who understands the frustrations and aspirations of the party’s base, signaling a campaign strategy grounded in loyalty to the party’s operational engine: its grassroots.
While acknowledging support from senior NPP figures, Acheampong made clear that his political allegiance lies with those on the front lines of party activity. “Many leading members of our dear party, including current and former MPs, have pledged their support and loyalty—and I am grateful,” he said. “But the support that matters most to me is the support of polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, and constituency and regional executives.”
Dr.Acheampong’s remarks underscore a growing theme among NPP presidential contenders, many of whom are pledging to address grassroots neglect, which has been blamed for reduced voter turnout in the 2024 election cycle. His message of direct benefit for party workers echoes similar commitments made by rival Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia earlier this week, suggesting that internal party loyalty and resource distribution will be central issues in the lead-up to the January 2026 primaries.
Dr. Acheampong’s Eastern Region tour marks the formal kickoff of his nationwide campaign, as he seeks to position himself as both a reformer and a loyalist—someone capable of connecting elite backing with grassroots energy.
