NPP Not a “Broken Party” Despite 2024 Defeat - Afenyo-Markin

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader of Parliament and a prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said on Saturday,July 19 that the party remains united and resilient, despite its loss in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference held at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra, Afenyo-Markin rejected characterizations of the party as fractured, describing it instead as “battle-tested.”

“We made mistakes, but we’re not a broken party,” he said. “We’re not a party of despair. This is a time to rebuild, reconnect with the grassroots, and engage Ghanaians with a bold new vision.”

The lawmaker emphasized the need for a disciplined and cohesive strategy, urging members to move beyond internal discord and personality-driven politics. He warned that party infighting had contributed to their electoral loss and must not persist if the NPP is to regain power in 2028.

“Unity doesn’t mean uniformity, but loyalty to a shared purpose,” he added. “No individual is bigger than the NPP, and that belief must reflect in our tone, strategy, and posture.

The conference was convened as part of a broader effort by the NPP to reassess its organizational structure, messaging, and outreach. Under the theme “Rebuilding Together with Our Values,” the event drew senior party officials from across the country, who are expected to play key roles in the party’s effort to recover ahead of the next election cycle.
