President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to transform Papao Farms in Accra into a centre of excellence for agriculture, training and research, assuring full government support for its growth.
During an inspection tour of the poultry farm on Friday, September 12, the president commended National Service personnel and volunteers working on the project and promised them continued backing from his administration.
“I promise to help you develop this poultry farm into a centre of excellence. It will be both a producing farm, a training farm and a research farm,” President Mahama said.
He revealed that discussions had already been held with the Minister of Finance to secure resources for the project. “He’s out of the country at the moment, but as soon as he returns I will bring him here to see the good work you’re doing. That way, when we request funds for the processing plants, the hostel, vehicles and solar power systems to support electricity supply, he won’t hesitate to release them,” he explained.
The president stressed that Papao Farms would not only support food production but also serve as a model of youth-driven agricultural development in West Africa.
“We will make this a model farm so that people from across the sub-region can come and study what Ghana’s National Service personnel and volunteers have achieved here in Papao,” he assured.
