The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed the arrest of four additional individuals, including supervisors, for their involvement in examination malpractice during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi, disclosed on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Friday, September 12, 2025, that the arrests bring the total number of suspects picked up so far to 18.
According to him, the latest cases involved impersonators at Holy City Senior High School in Assin Fosu, as well as invigilators and supervisors caught using their mobile phones to take pictures of exam papers.
“Unfortunately, we have arrested four more. At Holy City SHS in Assin Fosu, we picked up four impersonators, and we have also arrested some supervisors and invigilators. So really, the figures have gone up,” Mr. Kapi said.
WAEC has repeatedly warned against cheating and other irregularities, stressing that those found culpable will face the full rigour of the law.
As part of long-term reforms, the council is exploring the possibility of introducing computer-based testing (CBT) for both the WASSCE and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to help curb malpractice.
