President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate suspension of fuel allowances and allocations for all political appointees, part of a broader cost-cutting campaign aimed at narrowing government spending and signaling fiscal restraint.
The move is the latest in a series of austerity measures initiated by the Mahama administration, which has already trimmed the number of ministers and staff in the Presidential Office and canceled satellite television subscriptions in government facilities.
“The President believes that leadership must also bear its part of the sacrifices it is calling on the people to make,” said Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and presidential spokesperson, in a statement issued Tuesday.
The administration said the decision is intended to free up public funds for priority areas and reinforce the government’s commitment to financial discipline amid growing calls for accountability and efficiency in public service.
