“I Am Akwatia’s Joshua” – NPP Candidate Declares Ahead of By-Election

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Akwatia by-election, Solomon Kwame Asumadu, has likened himself to the biblical Joshua, declaring that he has been chosen to continue the work of the late MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi.

Drawing on scripture, Mr. Asumadu compared his political mission to that of Joshua, who completed the journey Moses began with the Israelites. He noted that while Mr. Kumi laid the foundation for Akwatia’s development, he has been called to finish the task.

“I know Ernest Kumi was passionate about developing Akwatia. He wanted real transformation, and that is the exact mission I intend to fulfill if given the mandate,” he told constituents.

Reiterating his commitment, he added:

“I am the Joshua of our time. As Joshua led the Israelites to the Promised Land, I have been chosen to lead Akwatia to its own promised land. I am a man of action, not just words. Everyone who knows me can testify to that. I do not have to depend solely on the common fund to assist my people. My commitment is to bring progress to Akwatia, opportunities for the youth, and development for all.”

The by-election was necessitated by the passing of MP Ernest Yaw Kumi on July 7, 2025. The Electoral Commission has scheduled the vote for September 2, 2025.

Confident of victory, Mr. Asumadu has vowed to secure a 10,000-vote margin over his main opponent, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Bernard Bediako Baidoo.
