Homowo: Second Suspect Arrested in Omanjor Chief’s Palace Violence

The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested another suspect in connection with the violence at the Omanjor Chief’s Palace during the Homowo Festival on Saturday, August 30, 2025, which left three people dead and several others injured.

The suspect, 35-year-old Christian Saka Ahianyevi, a private security officer, was picked up on the same day of the incident. His arrest follows that of 26-year-old Newton Alotey, a dispatch rider, who was taken into custody on August 31.

Police said Ahianyevi was found in possession of a locally manufactured pistol, a cutlass, and other exhibits. Alotey, meanwhile, was earlier arrested with 18 spent BB cartridges. All items have been retrieved as evidence.

The arrests were carried out through intelligence-led operations coordinated by the Accra Regional Police Command with support from the Special Support Unit at the National Headquarters.

Both suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations, while security presence has been reinforced in the affected communities.

In a statement issued on Monday, September 1, the Command urged residents and rival factions to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement. It also appealed to the public to provide credible information on the whereabouts of other suspects by contacting police emergency numbers 18555 or 191.
