Ghana plans to roll out passport application centers in every region by December 2025, in a move aimed at decentralizing access to travel documentation and improving public service delivery, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced this week.
The first of the new centers is set to open in Bolgatanga later this month, marking the beginning of the expansion to the seven remaining regions that currently lack such facilities.
Speaking at a ceremony where diplomatic passports were issued to five distinguished Ghanaians—including Grammy-nominated artist Rocky Dawuni and British-Ghanaian entrepreneur Dentaa Amoateng—Mr. Ablakwa touted recent reforms within the Foreign Affairs Ministry, highlighting improvements in the passport issuance process.
“The Ministry has become very efficient,” he said. “Applicants are now receiving passports in record time through courier delivery, eliminating the need for in-person collection and long queues.”
The initiative is part of a broader push to modernize government services and enhance convenience for citizens, as the country continues efforts to streamline bureaucracy and expand digital access to public services.
