Ghana Condemns Israeli Airstrikes on Qatar, Warns of Threat to Mideast Peace Efforts

The government of Ghana on Wednesday issued a strong condemnation of Israeli airstrikes on Qatar, describing the action as unprovoked and a violation of international law.

In an official statement dated September 10, Accra characterized the strikes as a “flagrant affront” to Qatar’s sovereignty and warned that such acts risk destabilizing fragile peace efforts between Israel and Palestine.

“The Government of the Republic of Ghana condemns the attack in view of the fact that the airstrikes constitute a clear violation of international law and an affront to the sovereignty of the State of Qatar,” the statement read.

Ghana’s government expressed solidarity with Qatar, citing casualties, fatalities, and significant property damage resulting from the incident. President John Dramani Mahama extended his sympathies to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the Qatari people, referring to the situation as a period of “difficult times.”

The statement also praised Qatar’s longstanding diplomatic role in the Israel-Palestine conflict, urging Doha not to be deterred in its mediation efforts. “We commend Qatar for their tireless and impressive commitment towards the resolution of the conflict between the States of Israel and Palestine,” the government said.

Ghana further called for restraint from all sides, emphasizing the need to avoid further escalation and preserve diplomatic channels. “We appeal that this condemnable incident is not allowed to derail Qatar’s effort in negotiating a peaceful diplomatic resolution of the conflict,” the statement concluded.
