Francis-Xavier Sosu Appointed Notary Public by Supreme Court

The Member of Parliament for Madina and renowned human rights lawyer, Francis-Xavier Sosu, has been officially appointed as a Notary Public by the Acting Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.

The appointment was conferred at a brief ceremony at the Supreme Court on Thursday, August 14, 2025, marking yet another milestone in Mr. Sosu’s distinguished career in law and public service.

As a Notary Public, Mr. Sosu is empowered under the Notary Public Act to act as an impartial witness in the signing of important legal documents, administer oaths, take affidavits, and help combat fraud through proper verification of signatories’ identities and intentions.

Approaching his 15th anniversary at the Bar on October 1, 2025, his elevation is widely viewed as a recognition of his enduring commitment to justice, integrity, and public service. His nomination to the General Legal Council by the Attorney General further underscores his professionalism and ethical standing.

Beyond his role in Parliament, Mr. Sosu is an accomplished human rights advocate, author, and Vice Chairman of the Trade and Investment Committee of the Africa Bar Association. He previously served as 2nd Vice President of the United Nations Association of Ghana and now serves as Patron of the Cancer Project Foundation.

In Parliament, the Madina legislator is Ranking Member of the Subsidiary Legislation Committeeand a member of the Human Rights, Foreign Affairs, and Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committees. He also holds leadership roles beyond Ghana, serving as Vice

President of the West African Caucus of the African Parliamentary Union, and sits on the boards of the Ghana Revenue Authority and the General Legal Council.

His legal advocacy is particularly notable for his work with marginalized communities. He has provided pro bono assistance to over 800 pre-trial detainees, securing the release of many unjustly held individuals. In Parliament, he has sponsored 18 Private Member’s Bills, with three already passed into law—including the landmark legislation abolishing the death penalty in Ghana.

Mr. Sosu’s academic credentials span multiple disciplines, including Sociology and Archaeology, Law, Oil and Gas Law, Economic Policy Management, and Human Rights. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Regional Integration Law at the University of Ghana, with research focused on the harmonisation of African regional economic communities.

He is also a prolific author with nine published books, including Pro Bono Lawyer Without Honour and Guilty Until Proven Innocent, which trace his journey from a vulnerable street child adopted by the Village of Hope Orphanage to one of Ghana’s most influential legal minds.

His contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the Timothy Bowles African Human Rights Leadership AwardHumanitarian of the Year (2022)Political Personality of the Year (2024), and Most Outstanding Member of Parliament in Africa – Human Rights (2025) by The Business Executive.

With this latest appointment as Notary Public, Francis-Xavier Sosu adds another prestigious responsibility to his portfolio—further cementing his place as a transformative figure in Ghana’s legal and political landscape.
