The Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) has strongly condemned the assault of a nurse during a chaotic incident at its Emergency Department, which was captured in a viral social media video.
According to the hospital, the clash occurred when relatives of an accident victim stormed the triage area, allegedly over delays in attending to a critically injured patient. Their actions, which included verbal aggression, disrupted medical procedures and endangered staff, forcing management to call in the Ghana Police Service to restore calm.
In a statement signed by Head of Public Relations, Ms. Juliana Haruna, the hospital said:
“Their overwhelming presence disrupted the smooth delivery of care, caused unnecessary tension, and even threatened the safety of our clinicians. In the process, one of our dedicated nurses was assaulted. This unacceptable act resulted in a temporary halt in service delivery.”
The hospital emphasized that the safety of both staff and patients remains a top priority, cautioning the public against any form of aggression towards healthcare workers. It further reminded the public that taking photos or videos of patients and clinicians without consent is strictly prohibited, as it breaches privacy and hospital regulations.
GARH assured its commitment to quality healthcare delivery and appealed for public cooperation.
“We urge patients, relatives, and the general public to grant clinicians the needed space and respect to serve effectively,” the statement added.
