Energy Ministry Denies Reports of Aviation Fuel Shortage in Ghana

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has firmly dismissed recent reports alleging a shortage of Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) in Ghana, assuring both the public and aviation industry stakeholders that there is sufficient fuel available to support all flight operations.

In a statement issued on Thursday, July 24, 2025, the Ministry described the claims as “false” and urged the public to disregard them. It emphasized that Ghana’s current ATK reserves are adequate and there is no disruption in supply.

“Recent maintenance work was successfully carried out on the ATK jetty pipeline to strengthen fuel security. The upgrade was necessary and delaying it further would have compromised both the integrity of the jetty and national fuel safety,” the statement clarified.

As part of efforts to boost stock levels, the Ministry confirmed the arrival of an ATK vessel carrying 11,984 metric tons of fuel. Of that, 4,583 metric tons have already been offloaded to the Petroleum Warehousing and Supplies Limited (PWSL) over the past two days.

The remaining volume is currently being discharged to the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Ridge depots via the TOR jetty, with full offloading expected to be completed by midday on Friday, July 25, 2025.

To ensure a steady and uninterrupted fuel supply chain, Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah, has met with key stakeholders in the downstream petroleum sector as well as the management of the Ghana Airport Company Limited.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining energy stability and reiterated that there is no ATK shortage. It advised the public and all stakeholders to disregard misleading reports to the contrary.
