A tragic armed robbery attack on the Bole-Bamboi highway has left a man dead and his son critically injured. The victims, identified as Balenbogma, believed to be in his 50s, and his son, in his 20s, were ambushed near Taselema, a community along the Techiman-Wa stretch, around 6:30 p.m.
Reports indicate that the two were traveling from Sunyani to Lawra to attend the funeral of a relative when they encountered the armed robbers. Balenbogma was fatally shot, while his son sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Taselema Polyclinic.
Eyewitnesses, including commercial drivers who narrowly escaped the attack, told Adom News that such incidents have become increasingly common in the area. The robbers are said to exploit the poor road conditions to stage ambushes, targeting unsuspecting travelers.
Some drivers claimed that in addition to robbery, there have been reports of female passengers being sexually assaulted during these attacks.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Taselema Polyclinic mortuary.
Residents and frequent commuters are calling on the government to urgently rehabilitate the deteriorating road and intensify police patrols to curb the rising spate of highway robberies and improve safety in the region.
