A tense scene unfolded outside the Adabraka District Court in Accra on Thursday, as the aunt of a murdered immigration officer conducted traditional rituals and invoked curses on the suspects standing trial for his death.
The incident occurred during a court appearance for Bright Aweh and Thomas Zigah, also known as Nii Dzaase, who have been charged in connection with the killing of 38-year-old Stephen King Amoah. Both suspects appeared in court as part of ongoing proceedings.
Visibly distraught, the woman, identified as a maternal aunt of the deceased, broke eggs on the ground and called upon local deities to punish those she believes were involved in the killing.
“Anyone responsible for his death should also suffer the same fate,” she said. “The gods should deal ruthlessly with those involved. They shouldn’t be spared.”
Amoah was reported missing on 3 July 2025 after leaving his residence in the Ashongman Estate area to meet a friend. His burnt remains were discovered six days later at Abuom Junction near Kwabenya, prompting a police investigation that resulted in multiple arrests.
A third suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed by police, reportedly died after a brief illness on 23 August.
The case has drawn widespread public attention and condemnation, with family members and community leaders expressing deep sorrow and outrage over Amoah’s death.
The court has adjourned the case until 9 October 2025, as investigations continue.
