Abronye DC Granted Bail on Health Grounds - Lawyer

Kwame Baffoe, widely known in political circles as Abronye DC, has been granted bail after just three days in remand custody, with his legal team citing rapidly deteriorating health as the sole reason for the court’s decision.

The outspoken Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had been remanded on September 12 after being slapped with charges of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace. His arrest on September 8 followed a series of incendiary public comments — including controversial allegations against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the ruling party — which police deemed potentially inflammatory.

But on Monday, September 15, the Accra Circuit Court softened its stance, granting him bail set at GH¢50,000 with one surety, effectively curtailing his remand period.

In an interview on Eyewitness News Daniel Martey Addo, Abronye’s lawyer, confirmed that his client’s failing health was the only argument presented in court.

“It was solely based on the health condition of my client. That was the only thing I was putting before the court. I was impressing upon the court that the health condition of my client was deteriorating. My Lord, please grant him my prayer and abridge time,” Addo stated.

The ruling comes as a relief to both his family and political allies, many of whom had questioned the timing and motive behind his arrest, especially given Abronye’s long history of provocative political commentary.

With his bail now secured, all eyes will turn to what lies ahead — whether the courts will proceed with a full trial, or if this marks the beginning of a larger political showdown.
