Ablekuma North Rerun: EC Pledges Fair and Transparent Elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a fair, transparent, and credible rerun of the parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North constituency, scheduled for Friday, July 11.

Addressing a press briefing on Thursday, July 10, the Deputy Chairperson of the EC, Dr. Bossman Asare, stated that all preparations had been finalized, with the Commission fully committed to ensuring that the electoral process accurately reflects the will of the people.

“As the electoral management body, we are keen on bringing the electoral process in Ablekuma North to a conclusion and ensuring that the constituents are duly represented in Parliament,” Dr. Asare said.

The rerun comes after security concerns disrupted the collation of results in parts of the constituency during the December 2024 parliamentary elections. The EC subsequently announced a rerun in 19 affected polling stations.

The contest will once again feature the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Nana Akua Afriyie, who is seeking a return to Parliament, and the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Ewurabena Aubynn.

Dr. Asare noted that the Commission had laid out a clear legal framework to complete the process.

“We have provided a clear and lawful path to complete the collation process, ensuring that residents of Ablekuma North have the parliamentary representation they deserve,”

he stated.

Reiterating the EC’s dedication to upholding democratic standards, he added, “We want to assure the public and all political stakeholders that we remain guided by our core principles, and will ensure the rerun is conducted in a manner that is fair, transparent, and credible.”

The Commission also extended its best wishes to the candidates ahead of the polls.

“We wish both candidates the best of luck as the people of Ablekuma North head to the polls tomorrow, Friday, July 11,” Dr. Asare concluded.
