We won Ablekuma North with 414 votes - NPP claims

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has reiterated the party’s strong opposition to the Electoral Commission’s directive for a rerun of the parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

He emphasized that the party’s candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, secured a legitimate victory with a lead of 414 votes over her contender, Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the NPP’s constituency office in Ablekuma North, Kodua stressed that the party possesses concrete evidence and detailed figures confirming their candidate’s win and firmly stands by its position to reject the EC’s decision.

"But for us in the New Patriotic Party, we remain resolute and we know that our candidate Nana Akua Afriyie won their elections with a margin of 414 votes.

This is based on facts and figures. We have not just channeled numbers to the public. And today, I will demonstrate to you why we say that she won the elections with 414 votes," he said.

Kodua challenged the Electoral Commission’s reversal of its initial position not to hold a rerun, particularly after the Commission had previously communicated to the party that results from only three polling stations were left to be collated.

He further cited the testimony of the EC’s Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Bossman Asare, who, under oath before Parliament, affirmed that just three polling station results were pending.

Kodua described as a "shame" what he believes is the Electoral Commission's "u-turn" on conducting a rerun.

"Even with respect to a letter that I wrote to the Electoral Commission on the 3rd of June asking about the update of Ablekuma North, whereby the Electoral Commission confirmed to the New Patriotic Party that indeed it is left with only three polling stations.

"Again, the Electoral Commission led by Deputy Commissioner Dr Bossman, under oath went to Parliament and also confirmed that so far as they are aware and so far as they know, it has only left three polling stations at Ablekuma North," he said.

He added, "And therefore, it comes as very shocking that the Electoral Commission, based on its own conduct and also based on facts, based on their correspondence with the NPP, their pronouncement in parliament and even engagement with political parties on June 12, where they maintained their position that it is left with three polling stations will sadly make a U-turn. Indeed, it is a shame for this country.

The inconsistency from the Electoral Commission is a shame."

Meanwhile, the party has filed a suit seeking an injunction to prevent the Electoral Commission from conducting the planned parliamentary election rerun in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
