The Volta River Authority (VRA) has dismissed reports claiming ownership of a helicopter that made an emergency landing in Nkawkaw, Eastern Region.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 11, when a Jet A-1 helicopter, registration number 9G-AFW, flying from Accra to Kumasi, was forced to land near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Kwahu West Municipality due to poor visibility caused by harsh weather conditions.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 13, VRA clarified that it neither owns the aircraft nor operates any aviation services.
“We would like to state unequivocally that the said helicopter does not belong to VRA, and neither does VRA operate aviation services,” the statement read.
The authority explained that checks had confirmed the helicopter belongs to Volta River Aviation Limited (VRAL), a company registered with the Petroleum Commission.
VRA stressed that its mandate is solely to provide affordable and reliable electricity, with no involvement in aviation operations. It urged the public to disregard the misinformation and called on the media to verify such reports with its Corporate Affairs and External Relations Department before publication.
