Professor Raymond A. Atuguba, former Dean of the University of Ghana School of Law, has been appointed Acting Director of Legal Education at the General Legal Council (GLC), effective September 1, 2025.
His appointment follows a directive from Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie recalling Justice B.Y.K. Oppong of the Court of Appeal from the role to resume full duties on the bench.
In a letter dated August 8, 2025, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie expressed appreciation to Justice Oppong for his service, noting his “significant contribution” to professional legal education. He also announced plans to form a search committee to appoint a substantive Director.
“I wish to thank you for the significant contribution you made to professional legal education during your time as Director of Legal Education,” the letter stated.
The leadership change comes amid growing public debate over reforms to Ghana’s legal education system, including calls for greater access, enhanced infrastructure, and modernised curricula.
