Voting Underway in Ablekuma North Re-run as Voters Turn Out Early

Voting is currently underway in 19 polling stations across the Ablekuma North Constituency, where the Electoral Commission (EC) is conducting a parliamentary election re-run to determine the constituency’s representative in Parliament.

At the Methodist Church Odokor (1) polling station, officials confirmed that 22 out of 464 registered voters had cast their ballots as of 7:58 a.m., signaling an early and steady turnout. Reports from other polling centres within the constituency also indicate a smooth start to the day, with voters arriving early to participate in the electoral process.

The two main contenders—Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—have been sighted at various voting centres, engaging with constituents and observing proceedings. So far, the re-run has been characterized by a calm and orderly atmosphere.

The re-run comes in the wake of a disputed outcome from the December 2024 general election, where results for the parliamentary seat were hotly contested by the NPP and the NDC. Allegations of irregularities and inconsistencies in vote tabulation led to multiple petitions and growing political tension in the area.

Following months of consultations with stakeholders and legal review, the EC declared a re-run in 19 polling stations—where it determined that irregularities were significant enough to potentially impact the final outcome of the race.

Since then, the Ablekuma North constituency has been without parliamentary representation, making today’s vote critical to restoring full legislative participation for the area.

The EC has assured the public of a fair, transparent, and credible process, and security personnel have been deployed to maintain peace and order throughout the voting exercise.

Polls are expected to close at 5:00 p.m., after which counting and collation of results will begin.
