Nigerian singer and songwriter Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, has made history as the first Nigerian artist to perform at the FIFA Club World Cup final halftime show.
The Grammy-winning artist delivered a high-energy performance at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA, on Sunday 13 July, during the final of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
She was joined on stage by Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin and American rapper Doja Cat, in a performance that blended Afrobeats with other global sounds.
The show was creatively produced by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who aimed to bring together diverse musical styles and cultures in a unified spectacle.
In a technical first for the tournament, the performance took place on a custom-built aerial platform suspended above the stands, preserving the condition of the pitch for the match.
The event attracted a high-profile audience, including FIFA President Gianni Infantino, entertainment industry figures, and former US President Donald Trump.
Tems' appearance has been widely celebrated on social media, with fans hailing it as a major milestone for Afrobeats and for Nigerian representation on the global stage.
