Tamale Central Grieves the Loss of MP Murtala Muhammed After Military Helicopter Crash

A wave of grief has swept through Tamale Central in the Northern Region following the tragic death of their Member of Parliament and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday.

Dr. Murtala, celebrated for his unwavering commitment and transformative leadership, perished alongside seven others when a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter went down in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region en route to Obuasi.

His sudden passing has left Tamale Central devastated. Many residents are struggling to come to terms with the loss of a man they viewed not just as a representative, but as a pillar of hope and progress.

Constituents described Dr. Murtala as a visionary leader whose influence reached far beyond his constituency to the national stage. They praised his deep wisdom, moral fortitude, and the tangible development he spearheaded in Tamale Central over the past eight years.

He was remembered for his humility, integrity, and heartfelt gratitude—often taking time to personally thank those who supported him and extending kindness to all, regardless of status.

His death is being mourned not just in Tamale Central, but across the nation, as Ghana grapples with the magnitude of this loss.

Also among the deceased were the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, a senior presidential staffer, and three military officers. Investigations into the cause of the crash are currently ongoing.
