Minority Pays Tribute to Dr. Omane Boamah and Seven Others Lost in Helicopter Crash

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has expressed profound sorrow following the tragic military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians, including two Cabinet Ministers, on Wednesday.

In a statement issued by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Caucus described the incident as a “national tragedy,” offering heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the entire nation.

“Following the formal announcement by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah confirming the heartbreaking loss, I wish to express my deepest grief, and that of the entire Minority in Parliament, over this devastating accident that has taken eight precious Ghanaian lives,” Mr. Afenyo-Markin said.

He described the victims as “fathers, husbands, sons, and devoted patriots” who undertook their mission with a shared commitment to serve Ghana.

Paying a personal tribute to the two fallen Cabinet Ministers, the Minority Leader highlighted the humanity and dedication that defined their public service.

“Hon. Dr. Alhaji Murtala Muhammed and I may have sat across the aisle in Parliament, but we shared countless sincere conversations about Ghana’s future. His passion for environmental stewardship went beyond political lines,” he noted.

On Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Afenyo-Markin said:

“Dr. Omane Boamah led the Defence Ministry with a rare combination of intellectual depth and patriotic devotion. His commitment to modernising the armed forces while upholding the core values of our military made him a true statesman.”

The Minority extended its condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, stating:

“Your loss is our loss; your grief is our grief. In this dark hour, we stand united with you and the entire nation in mourning.”

Assuring the bereaved families of their unwavering support, the Caucus described the tragedy as one that “touches the very soul of our nation.”

The statement concluded with a call for national unity and a commitment to honouring the fallen:

“Let us pay tribute to these eight gallant souls by reaffirming our dedication to national service by supporting our Armed Forces, protecting our environment, and working together to build a secure and prosperous Ghana.”
