President John Dramani Mahama has departed Accra for New York to head Ghana’s delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which officially opens on Tuesday, September 23.
In a statement issued by the presidency on Sunday, September 21, it was confirmed that President Mahama will address the General Assembly on Thursday, September 25. His participation will also extend to high-level side events, particularly in his role as the African Union’s Champion for Financial Institutions, where he is expected to host two major sessions on Africa’s economic and institutional development.
While in New York, President Mahama will hold bilateral meetings with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, fellow heads of state, and global leaders, including the President of the Rockefeller Foundation. He is also scheduled to engage with the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce and make a historic appearance at NASDAQ, where he will ring the closing bell.
The First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, is accompanying the delegation. She will participate in programmes organised by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) and deliver a keynote address at a special World Vision International prayer service dedicated to the welfare of children worldwide.

President Mahama and his delegation are expected to return to Ghana on Tuesday, September 30.
