President John Dramani Mahama has announced interim ministerial appointments following the tragic loss of two cabinet ministers in the military helicopter crash that occurred in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
In a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President directed the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, to assume additional responsibility as Acting Minister for Defence with immediate effect.
Likewise, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, has been appointed to serve as Acting Minister for Environment, Science and Technology until further notice.
The appointments come in the wake of the passing of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who were among eight individuals killed in the Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District.
The late officials were en route to Obuasi on official government duty when the fatal incident occurred.
The interim appointments are intended to ensure continuity and stability in critical areas of national governance during this period of national mourning.
Flags are currently flying at half-mast across the country, while the Ghana Armed Forces, in collaboration with relevant state agencies, has launched a formal investigation into the cause of the crash.
President Mahama is expected to lead a state tribute in the coming days as preparations begin for official funeral rites for the departed statesmen.
