Bank of Ghana Postpones Cedi@60 Launch Following Helicopter Tragedy

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has announced the indefinite postponement of the national launch of the Cedi@60 anniversary celebrations, originally scheduled for Friday, August 8, 2025.

The decision follows the tragic helicopter crash on Wednesday that claimed the lives of five senior government officials and three Ghana Armed Forces personnel.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Central Bank said,

“We regret to announce that the launch has been postponed.”

The commemorative event was set to take place at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Extending its sympathies, the Bank stated,“The Bank extends its deepest condolences to His Excellency the President of the Republic, the Government and People of Ghana, and the families of the departed.”

The statement further expressed gratitude for public understanding during this period of national mourning:

“The Bank appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all its stakeholders and the general public during this solemn time.”

The BoG has not indicated a new date for the launch but assured that updates will be provided in due course.
