Police Urge Teshie Residents to Comply with Court Order on Homowo Celebrations

The Ghana Police Service has called on elders and residents of Teshie in Accra to respect a court order restraining them from organizing outdoor events as part of this year’s Homowo Festival.

At a meeting with youth groups on Saturday, August 30, 2025, the Kpeshie Divisional Commander, ACP Emmanuel Baah, appealed for calm, stressing that the directive was necessary to maintain peace. He noted that the order followed engagements between the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), chiefs, elders, and stakeholders, who agreed that an injunction was in the best interest of the community.

“The chiefs, clan heads, and all interested parties have been served with the restraining order. We urge the youth to obey it,” ACP Baah stated.

Deputy Greater Accra Regional Commander, DCOP Obed Dzikunu, also addressed the gathering, acknowledging the frustrations of the youth but urging them to prioritize peace and safety. He warned that defying the order would result in arrests and prosecutions.

The directive comes in the wake of violent clashes between the Gbugblah and Lenshie clans during the sprinkling of Kpokpoi on Wednesday, August 26, which left three people dead.

Following the incident, MUSEC held consultations to develop guidelines for the remaining festival activities. However, rising tensions led the police to secure an injunction against the Teshie Traditional Council, the Teshie Council of Elders, and heads of the Gbugblah, Lenshie, Agbawe, Krobo, and Kle clans, barring them from holding outdoor celebrations on August 30 and 31.
