Ghanaian domestic carrier Passion Air warned of major flight disruptions this week due to an anticipated shortage of aviation fuel at Accra’s Kotoka International Airport, underscoring ongoing logistical strains in the country’s aviation sector.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the airline cited a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) released by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority on July 22, indicating a projected shortfall of Jet A-1 fuel at the capital’s main airport from Wednesday through Sunday, July 27.
“As a result, we expect significant disruptions to our flight operations across all routes during this period,” the airline said.
The fuel shortage threatens to upend regional air connectivity, particularly for domestic travelers who rely on Kotoka as a central hub. Passion Air, which operates routes across Ghana, is urging passengers to monitor updates and contact its customer service hotline for assistance.
The company apologized for the inconvenience, adding that it is working closely with relevant authorities to minimize service interruptions.
Aviation fuel supply has become an increasingly sensitive issue in parts of West Africa, where infrastructure limitations and import dependencies often expose airlines to sudden operational risks.
