Over 107,000 BECE Candidates to Undertake Self-Placement – Education Ministry

The Ministry of Education has released the 2025 school placement results for candidates who sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Out of the 603,328 students who wrote the exams, 590,309 qualified for placement into Senior High Schools (SHSs), Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs), and Technical and Vocational Institutions (TVIs).

According to the Ministry, 483,800 candidates—representing 82 percent—have been automatically placed. However, 107,509 candidates will have to use the self-placement portal to secure admission.

Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, attributed the situation to the high demand for top-tier schools, which prevented some candidates from being matched with their preferred choices. He urged affected students to take advantage of the self-placement system, which has already been activated.

This year, the Ministry is piloting the inclusion of 70 private schools in the Free SHS Programme. While only 21 were available during the school selection stage, all 70 are now accessible on the placement portal.

In total, the placement exercise covers 724 public SHSs/SHTSs, 233 TVIs, and 70 private SHSs. To assist students and parents, resolution centres have been established at the district, regional, and national levels, with the GNAT Hall in Accra serving as the national centre.

The Ministry also reminded parents and guardians that placement is entirely free and cautioned them against making any payments to individuals claiming to offer placement assistance.
