The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has issued a wanted notice for Ernest Darko Akore, a former technical adviser at the Ministry of Finance, as part of an ongoing corruption investigation linked to a controversial revenue assurance contract involving Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
In a public announcement released Wednesday, the OSP said Mr. Akore, 67, is being sought in connection with suspected corruption-related offenses. A warrant for his arrest was issued by the Criminal Division of the High Court under the case title Republic v. Ernest D. Akore.
Authorities believe Mr. Akore, who previously held an American passport, may be a dual Ghanaian-American national. He is thought to be outside the country and possibly residing in the United States, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, or South Africa.
The Special Prosecutor’s office is urging the public to assist in locating the former official. Dedicated WhatsApp hotlines have been set up to receive credible tips: +233 554 494 499 and +233 554 484 488.
Mr. Akore’s alleged role in the SML-GRA contract, which has come under scrutiny over transparency and procurement irregularities, is a key focus of the OSP’s wider investigation into public sector corruption. The SML agreement, which was designed to improve revenue collection in Ghana’s petroleum and minerals sectors, has been the subject of parliamentary queries and public criticism since early 2024.
The OSP has not yet disclosed specific charges, but officials say further details will be made available as the investigation progresses.
