The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended Christopher Arthur, its 2024 parliamentary candidate for the Agona West constituency, citing a breach of party protocol related to internal campaigning.
In a formal notice issued jointly by the party’s Agona West constituency chairman, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, and secretary, Anthony Kwame Kum, Arthur was accused of defying a directive from NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua that prohibits intra-party campaigning for positions while party preparations for the general election are ongoing.
According to the statement, Arthur convened a meeting of electoral area coordinators on July 6, 2025—an act the party described as “a clear violation of party regulations and an instance of administrative indiscipline.”
“Your action not only disregards the authority of the General Secretary,” the letter stated, “but also undermines internal unity and the strategic work being done to strengthen the party ahead of the next general election.”
The suspension adds to growing concerns within the NPP about maintaining cohesion ahead of the 2024 general polls. Party insiders say the leadership is under pressure to project unity as it seeks to extend its mandate beyond the two-term administration of President Nana Akufo-Addo.
