The Manhyia Palace has declared a one-day suspension of all funeral activities across Asanteman on Thursday, August 21, to honor the one-week observance of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III.
The ban, announced in a formal statement Tuesday, comes as the Asante Kingdom prepares for a traditional ceremony at the Bogyawe grounds within the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. The observance will be held from noon to 6:00 p.m., providing space for the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the people of Asanteman to pay tribute to the late queen mother.
Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III passed away on August 7 at the age of 98. Her death was formally disclosed by the Asantehene during an August 11 Asanteman Council meeting, which brought together paramount chiefs and royal clan representatives from across the Ashanti Region.
She ascended the Asantehemaa stool on February 6, 2017, succeeding her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem III, who reigned until her passing in 2016 at age 111.
The Palace emphasized that the temporary ban on funerals reflects the deep cultural reverence accorded to the Asantehemaa and is intended to ensure a unified expression of mourning across the kingdom.
