President John Dramani Mahama will depart Accra on Sunday for official visits to Japan and Singapore, part of a broader push to bolster bilateral partnerships and court foreign investment amid his administration’s ongoing economic reform agenda.
In Tokyo, Mahama will attend the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX), where he is scheduled to address a plenary session focused on trade and investment across the African continent. He will also headline the Ghana Presidential Investment Forum, promoting the West African nation’s economic prospects under his government’s "Resetting Ghana" strategy.
The president is expected to hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, as well as senior officials from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). The meetings will center on enhancing cooperation in infrastructure, trade, and technical development—key sectors Mahama has identified as central to Ghana’s growth trajectory.
Following his engagements in Japan, Mahama will travel to Singapore for a three-day state visit. While there, he will meet with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. He is also set to participate in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum and deliver a keynote address at a separate investment forum aimed at increasing Singaporean capital flows into Ghana.
The tour is part of a targeted diplomatic and economic outreach strategy, with the presidency stating that the engagements are designed to strengthen cooperation in technology, finance, infrastructure, and human capital development, while also broadening market access for Ghanaian exports.
Mahama and his delegation are expected to return to Ghana following the conclusion of the Singapore leg of the trip.
