Mahama Arrives in Singapore to Deepen Economic Ties

President John Dramani Mahama began a three-day state visit to Singapore on Monday, seeking to bolster bilateral economic ties and attract investment into the West African nation’s priority sectors, including digital infrastructure, agribusiness, urban development, and education.

The visit, which includes high-level meetings with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, underscores Ghana’s push to diversify its economic partnerships and tap into Southeast Asia’s growth momentum.

In addition to official talks, President Mahama is slated to deliver the keynote address at the 8th Africa–Singapore Business Forum (ASBF), a key platform that convenes policymakers, investors, and business leaders from both regions. He will also headline a Ghana-focused Investment and Business Forum aimed at deepening private-sector collaboration.

“Ghana and Singapore share a forward-looking outlook anchored in innovation, skills, and enterprise,” President Mahama said upon arrival. “This visit will translate our shared values into practical cooperation, bringing Singaporean investment and know-how into Ghana’s priority sectors while opening new pathways for Ghanaian businesses across Southeast Asia.”

President Mahama is accompanied by a delegation of senior officials, including Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Trade and Agribusiness Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari. Also traveling with the president are Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State for Government Communications, Simon Madjie, CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, and Francis Kwarteng Arthur, head of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority.

Singapore, a leading financial and logistics hub, has in recent years sought to expand its trade and investment footprint in Africa, with Ghana emerging as a strategic partner due to its political stability and growing middle class.
