The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has issued a strong warning to local government leaders, urging them to prioritise action over rhetoric in delivering essential services.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, 28 August, Mrs Ocloo made it clear that Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region will be held accountable for measurable progress in three key areas: sanitation, street lighting, and the enforcement of local by-laws.
“Your performance will be based on three clear areas — sanitation, streetlights, and enforcement of by-laws. This will be documented in my report to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and then forwarded to the presidency,” she said.
She called on residents to take an active role in supporting local governance by reporting issues and complying with public regulations.
“To the public, I call on all residents to report faulty lights for quick action. Take responsibility for sanitation, avoid indiscriminate dumping, and assist security agencies in protecting public infrastructure,” she said.
The Minister also issued a stern warning to individuals involved in the theft of metal parts from public streets, saying such acts would not go unpunished.
Mrs Ocloo emphasised that government officials can no longer rely on promises alone, insisting that the people of Greater Accra expect visible, tangible improvements.
“The people of this region are tired of words. They want results, and they want them now,” she said.
