Historic Pan-African Road Trip Launches in Accra to Champion Visa-Free Africa by 2030

A groundbreaking 40,000-kilometre road journey across 39 African countries has commenced in Accra, as part of the Trans African Tourism & Unity Campaign aimed at promoting a visa-free Africa by 2030.

The 163-day expedition, which began on Monday, August 18, 2025, aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 vision of a united and prosperous continent. Endorsed by the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the initiative is being spearheaded by former Ghanaian legislator and Pan-Africanist, Ras Mubarak

The campaign seeks to deepen continental unity, boost cultural exchange, and advance sustainable tourism. Its first stop is Lomé, Togo, before continuing to Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo-Brazzaville, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia, and the Central African Republic.

Further stops will include Chad, Niger, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, and Burkina Faso, before the team returns to Ghana to conclude the journey.

According to Mr. Mubarak, the campaign represents more than just travel—it is a movement to reclaim Africa’s narrative through open borders, shared prosperity, and cross-border collaboration. “By advocating for a visa-free Africa, we hope to pave the way for a stronger, more connected continent for future generations,” he noted.

The road trip itinerary includes high-level meetings with African Heads of Government to deliver letters advocating visa-free policies, press briefings, cultural showcases, and stakeholder engagements to highlight tourism as a driver of unity and economic inclusion.

The campaign enjoys the support of a broad coalition of partners, including the Office of the Chief of Staff of Ghana, Afrimex Gold, National Investment Bank, Ghana Gold Board, GLICO Insurance, GNPC, Telecel Ghana, National Lottery Authority, Delcielo Optical Services, Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, Stanbic Bank Ghana, Pan African Progressive Front, Africans Rising, and Radisson Blu Brazzaville.

With backing from stakeholders across finance, energy, insurance, telecommunications, hospitality, and civil society, the initiative is positioned as a bold step toward dismantling visa barriers, fostering youth empowerment, and unlocking Africa’s vast tourism potential.
